Description The TPS53661 is a 6-Phase VR12.5/VR12 SVID compliant PWM controller with built-in PMBus interface to power the latest Intel CPU and DDR memory used in server systems. It supports advanced PMBus communication interface for device configurations and system telemetries. It also offers external pinstrapping option for configuration to increase programming flexibility.
The TPS53661 employs advanced control architecture D-CAP+ together with state-of-the-art non-linear control schemes (USR and OSR) to address stringent load transient conditions in modem microprocessors. Its Auto-Phase-Balance feature fundamentally solves beat frequency oscillation issues in high-frequency transient scenarios and ensures perfect phase current balance under any frequency spectrum. Such benefits enable less output capacitance and higher system reliability in operation.
The TPS53661 uses internal current sensing element from TI's proprietary Smart Power Stage (CSD95372B) to achieve industry benchmark current monitoring accuracy. Its internal control scheme has the intelligence to perform Dynamic Phase Shedding based on load current condition with programmable thresholds. This feature optimizes the efficiency across the entire load range with seamless transitions.
The TPS53661 incorporates all the necessary protection features with programmable thresholds through PMBus or pinstrapping. These protection features include UVLO, over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage and over-temperature. The advanced PMBus command set has the telemetry capability to report input and output voltage/current/power, temperature, and all fault conditions.
The TPS53661 is packaged in a space-saving and thermally enhanced WQFN 5x5-40L package and operates from -10 degC to 105degC.
