Early on in the pandemic, Qualcomm realized it had the means to support small businesses. That’s why we made it a priority to launch the Qualcomm Small Business Accelerator Program in 2020, which is designed to support small business owners transition to mobile-first businesses that can thrive in today’s business climate and be set up for success in the long-term. One of the companies that applied and was accepted into the Small Business Accelerator Program is NPI Materials. NPI Materials, a provider of tape and reel services, other SMT component preparation services, and carrier and cover tape products, reached out to Qualcomm because it was experiencing a severe sales decline. Though deemed an essential business, NPI Materials was not equipped to keep the business afloat and staff employed. Put simply: The company was not built for social distancing. The company had two objectives for 2020: replace its legacy order process with the latest Microsoft SQL server technology and achieve ISO 9000 registration. Then Covid-19 hit. NPI’s priority quickly became about business transformation. With Qualcomm’s help, the team was able to pivot. NPI Materials received a shipment of Microsoft Surface Pro X mobile PCs. These Snapdragon PCs proved transformative to this small business. And the Qualcomm-enabled Wi-Fi 6 mesh nodes contributed to NPI’s business transformation. The total impact of the Qualcomm Small Business Accelerator Program on NPI Materials is yet to be seen, but the company has no doubt that the contributions made by Qualcomm, including the Microsoft Surface Pro X mobile PCs, will be game changers.
