Qualcomm helps Xiaomi superfans take global mobile adventures

2015/06/12Qualcomm  Company / Market Trends

Qualcomm wants to advance the mobile industry all around the world, and for decades, that goal has led to collaborations with Chinese companies across the mobile ecosystem. Earlier this year, we even launched a division tasked with helping Chinese smartphone manufacturers reach a global market.

This is the most recent initiative in Qualcomm’s long history of supporting Chinese original equipment manufacturers. Qualcomm helped with China’s transition from 2G to 3G and 4G by supporting local mobile operators with network design and testing. And multi-SIM DSDS and DSDA technologies, which are important in the Chinese market, have been incorporated into Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets*. Engineering teams from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI) have helped Chinese OEMs launch more than 3,000 devices, including phones and tablets, around the world. And the work may be paying off: As of 2014, 5 of the top 10 global OEMs are Chinese.

As Chinese OEMs increasingly expand globally, QTI also collaborates with them on marketing efforts. One example of this is the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon Xiaomi Dream Tour, a marketing program from QTI and Xiaomi, China’s number-one smartphone OEM. Five contestants will compete in a range of mobile-themed challenges using only the newly unveiled Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, a smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor*. The challenges, which include a stop in San Diego and a dancing competition in New Delhi, are designed to showcase the capabilities of the Mi Note Pro, including camera features like 4K video filming, Cat 9 download speeds, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology*.

Xiaomi and Qualcomm’s social media fans will be able to follow contestants’ progress and vote on winners (challenge by challenge) during the two-week event this summer. Each step of the adventure will be chronicled live on Xiaomi & Qualcomm’s social channels.

Stay tuned for more coverage of Qualcomm’s role in the China mobile industry and the Dream Tour on the OnQ blog.
