USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) is a new specification enabling more flexible power supply and management through the USB interface, and allowing for power supply of up to 20V (up from the previous 5V). This greater supply capability can eliminate the need for AC adapters on computers, external disk drives, desktop LED lighting, and more. Use of this specification is expected to accelerate rapidly in the years ahead. Here, we demonstrate two USB-PD-based solutions. In the first, we use a USB-PD-compliant room power outlet to charge a battery pack that in turn charges smartphones and other such devices. In the second, we use USB-PD to power an LCD that displays power supply status.
