DALLAS, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Across the country, students are showing their love for their favorite Texas Instruments (TI) calculator. A new contest on social media encourages students and teachers to submit a photo or video showing why they love their TI calculator for a chance to win a classroom visit from Mayim Bialik, neuroscientist and star of the hit comedy "The Big Bang Theory." The grand prize winner will also receive a classroom set of 30 TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculators, TI's brand new calculator for back to school 2015.
"Math and science are fun, especially with the right tools to succeed in the classroom," Bialik said. "I look forward to seeing how students and teachers use their creativity and imagination to showcase what their TI technology means to them."
From now through Sept. 18, 2015, anyone over the age of 13 can submit a photo or video highlighting their favorite TI technology on Twitter or Instagram by using the hashtag #ilyTIcontest. Only video submissions will be considered for the grand prize of having Bialik for a school visit. Ten runners-up will receive a TI-84 Plus CE in the color of his or her choice, be it Radical Red, Positively Pink or Plum Pi. You can view the official rules and see all of the submissions at ilyTIcontest.com.
"It is a very exciting back-to-school season for us at TI with the launch of our slimmest, sleekest graphing calculator yet, the TI-84 Plus CE" said Peter Balyta, Ph.D., (@pbalyta), president of TI Education Technology. "The ILYTI contest is a chance for everyone around the country to get excited with us and share why they love their TI technology."
If you are in the market for a graphing calculator as you head back to school, here are some tips for choosing the right one: Ask your student's teacher: A graphing calculator may be the most important purchase you make for your student, so ask your child's teacher what he or she recommends and what will be used in class. Check high-stakes exam acceptance: All major exams, national and state, have specific calculator acceptance policies. Check to make sure the calculator you plan to buy is accepted before you make the purchase. Think long term: Quality graphing technology will last students from middle school through high school and into college. Think what math and science courses your student will be taking, be it geometry, algebra or advanced-level chemistry, so that the purchase can last a lifetime.
