As part of the magazine’s annual Top 10 Power Products awards, ON Semiconductor was honored for its NCP1611 high efficiency PFC controller

BEIJING, China – Sept. 20, 2012 – ON Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics, has received a "Green Energy Award" in the Top 10 Power Product Awards 2012 from Electronic Products China (EPC) magazine and 21ic.com. The award is for the company’s NCP1611 high efficiency power factor corrected (PFC) controller. This is the tenth consecutive year that ON Semiconductor's products have been recognized with this prestigious award.

The Green Energy Award is one of the five newly added awards under the Top 10 Power Product Awards this year. It recognizes highly energy-efficient products that meet environmental protection energy regulations. The NCP1611 sets itself apart for its highly efficient conversion capabilities across a wide load range, enabling customers to save energy.

"ON Semiconductor provides innovative, energy-efficient products to enable customers to save energy and reduce their environmental impact at the same time," said Hemen Cheng, ON Semiconductor senior global sales and marketing director for Power Supply Segment. "It is satisfying to see our efforts paying off and we are very pleased to receive this industry recognition. NCP1611 controller was developed to provide industry-leading standby mode power consumption to help customers remain at the cutting edge of energy-efficiency and technology innovation. This win underscores the company’s position as a premier supplier of energy efficient solutions. We will continue to innovate and develop high performance solutions that help create a greener world."

The NCP1611 is an active PFC controller for use as a boost pre-converter for AC-DC adapters, flat panel TVs, lighting ballast and other medium powered offline applications. The controller is based on an innovative current controlled frequency foldback (CCFF) method which maximizes power efficiency at both nominal and light load levels.

In the CCFF mode, the circuit classically operates in Critical conduction Mode (CrM) when the inductor current exceeds a programmable value. When the current is below this preset level, the NCP1611 linearly reduces the frequency down to about 20 kHz when the current is at a null. In particular, the standby losses are reduced to a minimum. The controller also features near unity power factor, -500 mA/+800 mA driver capabilities, and robust protection to properly handle an array of power supply operating and fault conditions.
