GlidePoint® Trackpads available now for products requiring Precision Touchpad for Windows 8.1

Salt Lake City, Utah, December 23, 2013 – Alps Electric Co., Ltd, and Cirque Corporation, the original developer of capacitive sensing technology, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Alps, today announce that their GlidePoint Trackpad has passed Microsoft Precision Touchpad (PTP) certification. As technology partners, Cirque and Alps have worked closely with Microsoft Corp. to bring about this latest touchpad solution. This solution enables customers to take advantage of the newest touchpad features available in Windows 8.1.

“Microsoft has been pleased to work with Alps and Cirque on their GlidePoint Trackpad for Windows 8.1,” said Jerry Koh, Group Program Manager, Windows Input Platform. As a Windows-compatible precision touchpad, a GlidePoint Trackpad is designed to provide a high quality experience and full functionality right out of the box. Notebook users can expect a precise cursoring experience and accurate palm detection that will help avoid accidental activations. Certified GlidePoint Trackpads will provide an industry-leading experience delivering smooth panning and zooming.

“We are excited to offer a certified Microsoft PTP solution as part of our GlidePoint products,” said Richard Woolley, Vice President of Cirque Engineering. “The PTP solution offers a great set of features aimed at standardizing the notebook touchpad experience. End users should have a positive and successful experience with touchpads in the Windows environment.”

PTP certified GlidePoint Trackpads are available now for OEM customers and are expected to be in products in the coming year.
